When Juan Sanchez crossed the finish line of the 30th annual STYR Labs Badwater 135 ultramarathon, he didn’t take the outstretched hands waiting to congratulate him.
Instead, he grabbed his three crewmembers, Ahren Trumble, Larisa Stephenson and Drew Macomber, and drew them close.
“Thank you for everything,” said Sanchez, visibly moved as he clung to three Napa Valley residents who’d given up a week of their lives to help him compete in the grueling 135-mile footrace held July 10-12.
